Carnelian is a kind of Agate and in more general, belongs to the Quartz family (belongs to the Chalcedony family , which is a sub family of the Quartz).

Transparent - half transparent orange color , sometimes with shades ranging from orange to reddish-brown.
Locality :
Mostly Brazil, Uruguay, India.
Origin :
Carnelian is more of a term to describe a solid red (red-brown) - translucent agate. The word is derived from the Latin word "cornus" meaning horn, in reference to the flesh color sometimes exhibited.
